Transnationally Indigenous -
1974 First Ainu Delegation to China
Interactive Map

As a motion graphics designer, I created the animated travel itinerary featured on the Transnationally Indigenous website as part of an interactive experience exploring Indigenous transnational diplomacy in action. The animation visualizes the Ainu delegations’ travel in a visually engaging way as they journey across China—allowing viewers to follow their route, explore the places they visited, and learn about the experiences and connections formed along the way.

The mid-1970s international Indigenous delegation travels in East Asia and Canada, highlighting the agency of Indigenous communities in actively shaping their futures, contributing to global discourses on decolonization and changing the world.

One of the many aims of this project is to shift away from the dominant paradigm in many fields of study that is confined to or excessively focused on nation-state histories. Instead, it seeks to highlight social and political movements that transcend state borders and shape how states behave
